May 2025
For visitors:
Improved: Web address structure
Since April 2025, every organization page has a unique code in its web address, in addition to the organization name. This could be an organization code or Chamber of Commerce number from organizations.overheid.nl. If such a code is not available there, a unique code is generated. These generated codes will now be 6 digits long (previously 12). This keeps web addresses as short as possible.
From now on, both the web addresses of organization pages and algorithm descriptions will be structured using the organization codes of the parent organization(s). This helps researchers and other users know exactly which organization(s) are involved. It also clarifies which algorithm descriptions have been published by an organization.
For editors
Added: New templates
Organizations can use templates of algorithm descriptions from vendors in the web form. The following templates have been added:
- Heat Stress Modeling Software (from Tygron)
- 3Di water management (by Nelen & Schuurmans)
- 'License Plate Camera Enforcement in Pedestrian Areas', 'License Plate Camera Enforcement in Environmental Zones', 'License Plate Camera Enforcement in Car-Free City Centers' and 'License Plate Camera Enforcement in Zero-Emission Zones' (by Brickyard).
This makes it easier for organizations to publish descriptions of those algorithms.
For visitors:
Fixed: Map display in the dashboard
On the Algorithm Register Dashboard , maps showing the safety regions and environmental services were temporarily not displayed due to a technical error. This has now been resolved. The maps now show which safety regions and environmental services are connected and have published on the Algorithm Register.
For visitors:
Restored: Correct numbers of connected organizations in the dashboard
The Algorithm Register Dashboard displays a graph showing the number of organizations that have joined over the past 12 months. This graph accidentally double-counted the monthly numbers. This error has been resolved, and the graph now shows the correct numbers again.
For editors:
Added: New template
Organizations can use templates of algorithm descriptions from vendors in the web form. From now on, organizations can also use the new template to publish the description of the algorithm "Facial Comparison – Identity Verification Tool at Municipal Counters" (from Oribi Software BV).
April 2025
For visitors:
Added: Inactive organizations can now also be found via the search bar
From now on, you can also search the Algorithm Register for organizations that haven't yet joined or haven't published an algorithm description. These inactive organizations are already listed on organisatie.overheid.nl , but haven't yet published anything in the Algorithm Register.
If you type such an organization into the search bar, suggestions will be provided. You'll then be automatically redirected to a help page. This way, you'll know where to find more information. This prevents you from wondering why you couldn't find anything about the organization you were looking for.
Improved: Organization codes added to the URLs of organization pages
Each organization page now has a unique code in its web address (URL), in addition to the organization name. This could be an organization code or Chamber of Commerce number from organizations.overheid.nl , for example. If such a code isn't available there, a unique code is generated.
This ensures that links to organization pages continue to work properly, even if an organization changes its name. This also helps researchers and other users know exactly which organization is being referred to.
February 2025

Improved: Organization type sorting
Currently, searches can be performed using the "Organization Types" filter and then by organization, with the default sort order based on the number of published algorithm descriptions. Two buttons have been added that allow you to sort alphabetically or by the number of published algorithm descriptions.
Improved: Explanation of impact assessments
The explanation about the impact tests on the algorithm description page has been updated.
For editors:
Improved: Quality Dashboard
The July 11, 2024, release indicated that several graphs and reports would be displayed. The layout of these graphs and reports has been improved. The maps previously displayed poorly on small screens, but this has now been resolved. The graphs "Total number of affiliated organizations" and "Total number of published algorithm descriptions" were previously displayed monthly; this has now been changed to daily.
Improved: Algorithm ID
Algorithm descriptions can be downloaded as CSV and Excel files. From now on, the downloaded file for an algorithm description also includes the algorithm ID. This allows you to link to the URL of an algorithm description.
Improved: Bullet points in Microsoft Word
When downloading algorithm descriptions in Microsoft Word, bullet points were displayed as HTML tags. This has now been fixed.
Added: New template
Organizations can use templates for algorithm descriptions from vendors in the web form. From now on, organizations can also use the new template to publish the description of the "Virtual Municipal Assistant Gem" algorithm (from the Municipality of Tilburg).
Improved: Quality Dashboard

July 2024
For visitors:
Solved: Smarter Search
The Impact Tests selection filter allows you to search for algorithm descriptions for which a specific impact test has been performed. When selecting the "Other" option, not all algorithm descriptions were displayed as results, even though they did meet that criterion. This error has now been resolved.
Improved: User Interface (UX)
When you search for algorithm descriptions in the Algorithm Register, search results are displayed using summary tiles. These tiles contain the most relevant information. These include the organization in question, a brief description of the algorithm, the publication category, its status, and, as of now, (1) any impact assessments performed.
The appearance of these tiles was then used as the basis for (2) the display of the summary tile on the pages containing the full algorithm descriptions. This creates more uniformity on the website, which gives visitors a sense of calm.
Previously, on the page describing an algorithm, the name, organization, brief description, theme, status, publication category, and impact assessments of that algorithm were displayed both in the summary tile and in the table below. To prevent all this information from being duplicated, (3) this information is now displayed only in the summary tile.
We've improved the (4) display of selection filters for both the algorithms page and the organizations page. Categories are now displayed one below the other, followed by the number of results that fall under each category. If a particular selection filter contains many categories, this list is automatically collapsed. Visitors can expand this list to see all categories (and collapse it to hide them). This makes the selections clearer.
Solved: Smarter Search
The June 14, 2024, release introduced a new selection filter that allows users to search for algorithm descriptions for which a specific impact assessment has been performed. However, when more than one performed impact assessment was specified for an algorithm description, it was not displayed as a result when selecting a performed impact assessment as a search criterion. This bug has now been fixed.
Improved: Findability (SEO)
To ensure that everyone can more easily find and recognize the Algorithm Register, this release of the Algorithm Register also improves its findability. This means that (1) the titles and descriptions of pages displayed as search engine results have been optimized, and (2) the URLs of algorithm descriptions have been made more readable. These improvements should make pages in the Algorithm Register easier to find via search engines (such as DuckDuckGo, Google, Bing, etc.). This also makes pages more recognizable for visitors searching for specific algorithms via search engines.
For editors:
Improved: Quality Dashboard
The July 11, 2024, release included a map of the Netherlands showing each municipality's connection and whether it has published one or more algorithm descriptions. A map has now been added showing the same information for provinces.
In addition, a bar chart shows how many algorithm descriptions in the publication categories 'High-risk AI system', 'Impactful algorithms' and 'Other algorithms' have been published in the Algorithm Register.
These visualizations enable reporting on the filling of the Algorithm Register.
Improved: Quality Dashboard
In earlier releases this month, maps of the Netherlands were introduced, showing each municipality or province whether it has already joined the Algorithm Register and has published one or more algorithm descriptions. From now on, the same information is also available for the water boards and environmental services in the Netherlands.
Solved: Web form
Editors can preview a saved algorithm description in the web form. This allows them to see what the algorithm description or a modification to it will look like before it's published. However, an error occurred that prevented previewing. This was due to URLs being made more readable (released July 11, 2024) to improve search engine optimization (SEO). This error has been fixed, and previewing is working again.
Improved: Quality Dashboard
The July 11, 2024, release introduced the "Total number of affiliated organizations" and "Total number of published algorithm descriptions" graphs. From now on, the totals will be displayed in the header of these graphs.
In addition, the total number of municipalities turned out to be incorrect, which has now been corrected.
Added: New template
Organizations can use templates for algorithm descriptions from vendors in the web form. From now on, organizations can also use the new template to publish the description of the "Text Analysis" algorithm (from ZyLAB eDiscovery & Compliance Services BV).
Improved: Quality measurement
It's possible that a link is included in an algorithm description in the Algorithm Register that later turns out to be broken or no longer exists. From now on, these broken links will be displayed in a report so that they can be fixed. This ensures that only working links are included in the register.
Improved: Quality Dashboard
The number of organizations that describe their algorithms in the Algorithm Register is growing every month. This growth is shown in (1) a graph showing the total number of participating organizations and (2) a graph showing the total number of published algorithm descriptions. These visualizations allow us to report on the growth over the past few years per month.
An (3) interactive map of the Netherlands shows whether each municipality has already connected and has published one or more algorithm descriptions.
Finally, a (4) Organization top 20 has been made available. Here you can see which 20 organizations have published the most algorithm descriptions to date.
Improved: Version Control
In the previous release, the functionality for archiving saved versions of algorithm descriptions was rolled out in the web form. Now, when a saved version is archived, it disappears from the list of saved versions for the algorithm description and is displayed in the new archive overview. From here, an editor (provided they have the appropriate permissions) has a complete overview of all archived versions of all algorithm descriptions in their organization. When an archived version is unarchived, it is removed from the archive overview and displayed again among the saved versions of the algorithm description.
This is part of the ongoing development of the new web form, which is being extensively tested. If the results are positive, the web form will be updated this summer.
Added: New template
Organizations can use templates for algorithm descriptions from vendors in the web form. From now on, organizations can also use the new template to publish the description of the 'Zivver' algorithm (from Zivver BV).
June 2024
For editors:
Improved: Publication process
The web form is currently being updated to accommodate the growing Algorithm Register and the ever-expanding group of publishing organizations. This release includes the following components:
From the web form, user accounts can be created and their rights can be set.
It can be set per editor whether they are allowed to edit the organization details.
An alternative workflow for publishing algorithm descriptions can be established in consultation. Organizations can then publish using two of their own employees, following the four-eyes principle, without ICTU intervention.
This is part of the continued development of the new web form, which will be extensively tested until July. If the results are positive, the web form will be updated this summer.
Improved: Version Control
Every time an editor saves an algorithm description, a version is created and saved. This previous version can then be restored if needed. Editors now have the option to archive saved versions of algorithm descriptions that haven't been published. The editor also has the option to unarchive and republish archived versions.
This is also part of the further development of the new web form.
For visitors:
Improved: Smarter Search
1) Tests are being conducted for an increasing number of algorithms that provide insight into their impact. It is now possible to search using a selection filter for algorithm descriptions for which a specific impact test has been performed. The following tests are used as search criteria:
Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA)
Impact Assessment Human Rights and Algorithms (IAMA)
Other
No
Only published algorithm descriptions according to publication standard 1.0.0 can be found using this selection filter.
2) Visitors could already apply a selection filter to search only for algorithm descriptions of a specific organization. This involves first selecting an organization type (e.g., 'Province', 'Municipality', 'Ministry', etc.) and then selecting a specific organization. Only when the organization was selected was the search executed, and thus the results updated. From now on, the search will be executed when an organization type is selected, making it possible to also search for algorithm descriptions of all organizations that fall under a certain type.
Solved: Download all algorithms
You can download all algorithm descriptions via the 'Algorithms' menu option. An error occurred that caused the download to hang. This error has now been resolved.
May 2024
For editors:
Improved: Web form
The "Reference Impact Assessments" field in the web form now gives editors the option to select Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) and Human Rights and Algorithms Impact Assessment (IAMA) with a single mouse click. This ensures that the impact assessments are listed consistently across all publications using standard 1.0.0. If neither of these impact assessments has been used, editors can enter their own impact assessment.
Improved: Quality measurement
The editor now receives a notification when a field in the web form is filled in with a broken or existing link. The field in question is highlighted, so the editor immediately knows which field is involved. The algorithm description cannot be published without correcting the broken link.
This is also part of the previously mentioned further development of the new web form, which will hopefully be updated this summer after thorough testing and positive results.
Added: New template
Organizations can use templates of algorithm descriptions from vendors in the web form. From now on, organizations can also use the new template to publish the description of the "Anonymization Software" algorithm (from DataMask BV).
Improved: Publication process
As previously mentioned, we are working to improve the publication process due to the growth of the registry. This release includes several optimizations for the design of the web form. We will be testing these (and future) improvements extensively until July. If the results are positive, the web form will be updated this summer.
Improved: Publication process
Organizations use a web form with a publication process that allows them to control what they publish. The publication process has several steps. This quarter, we are working on improving the entire process. This is necessary due to the growth of the register, and we want to meet the needs of a growing group of editors. The most important improvements so far are:
The web form has been redesigned for a more user-friendly experience.
Every time an algorithm description is saved, a draft version is now created. This makes it possible to revert previously saved versions of descriptions.
We will be extensively testing these (and future) improvements until July. If the results are positive, the web form will be updated next summer.
Added: New templates
Organizations can use templates for algorithm descriptions from vendors in the web form. From now on, organizations can also use new templates to publish the description of the "Octobox Anonymization" algorithm (from Octobox and DocDirekt) and "Public Space Notifications" (from the Municipality of Amsterdam).
Resolved: Organization details web form
Organizations can use the web form to write text for their organization page in the Algorithm Register. This page allows them to indicate how they use algorithms and publish their findings in the Algorithm Register. A brief error occurred that prevented these organizational details from being saved. This error has been resolved, and everything is working properly again.
For visitors:
Improved: Smarter Search
It is now possible to apply a selection filter when searching for algorithm descriptions, so you only get results that fall under a specific publication category. This distinguishes between the following categories:
High-risk AI system
Impactful algorithms
Other algorithms

New: It is now possible to search via the 'Organizations' menu option.
In the main menu at the top, there's an "Organizations" option where you can view a list of all published organizations, along with a list of their algorithm descriptions. From now on, you can use the search bar on that page to search for organizations.
Improved: Searching with organization abbreviation shows the option to navigate directly to the organization page
It is now possible to navigate directly to an organization page using an abbreviation, for example BZK (Interior and Kingdom Relations) or UWV (Employee Insurance Agency).
Improved: With an organization name as a search term you can now find all algorithm descriptions of that organization
When you type an organization's name into the search bar, you expect to find at least all its algorithm descriptions. This wasn't always the case. The search function has been technically adjusted to ensure completeness.
Improved: Smarter search when an organization name is used as a search term
If you entered the shortened or full name of an organization in the search bar, you would get all algorithm descriptions where the organization name appeared anywhere in the description. This even included algorithm descriptions from other organizations. That's not always what you're looking for. That's why you'll now see suggestions below the search bar to choose from. This allows you to search faster and more targeted. These suggestions will be further expanded and refined in the coming period.
Adjusted: Publication standard is now also displayed
When displaying search results, the version of the publication standard used is now also displayed. This is because the available information can vary depending on the version.
Improved: When downloading, you can see that the download is still in progress
Due to the growth of the Algorithm Registry, downloads are now taking a little longer. You'll now receive feedback about this, letting you know you'll have to wait a bit for the download to complete.
For editors:
New: Anonymization algorithm description filled in faster using the eData BV template
In the web form, organizations can now use the template from the supplier eData BV (also known as eSpecialists BV) to fill in the algorithm description of Anonymization more quickly.
Adjusted: Check the link to your own website on the organization page
This registry allows organizations to explain how they use algorithms on their own organization page. In the "More information" field, a link can be included to a page on their own website. It is no longer possible to add spaces to this link. However, it is now permitted to add a slash ('/') to the end of a link.
Fixed: Texts that were divided into paragraphs with empty lines in between were not saved
Due to a recent bug, information spread across multiple paragraphs wasn't saved. This caused some information to disappear. This has now been fixed.
February 2024

For editors:
New: Create algorithm descriptions faster using a template
You can now use templates in the web form to quickly complete your algorithm description. Nine templates have been provided by suppliers primarily serving municipalities.
Updated: Publication Standard version 1.0 now mandatory for new algorithm descriptions
The final version of the Publication Standard was adopted in December 2023. It is no longer possible to start new descriptions in an older version of the standard. Existing descriptions can still be edited in an older standard.
January 2024
For visitors:
Improved: Download options have been expanded
All algorithm descriptions in the registry can be downloaded. This can be done simultaneously in one very large file for all algorithm descriptions, or individually for each algorithm description. It is now possible to download algorithm descriptions in both Dutch and English. This can be done as an Excel file or a CSV file. If you choose the CSV file, you can also open it in Excel, but for opening algorithm descriptions in Excel, it is more convenient to download them as an Excel file.
New: Search terms are highlighted in yellow in search results
When searching, you'll sometimes see your search term highlighted in yellow in the search results. This is the case if the term appears in the short description. If the term is found elsewhere in an algorithm description, you'll see that algorithm in the search results, but not with the search term highlighted in yellow.
Improved: Filter options now also work in English view
Filter options in the 'Algorithms' page now also work in English.
Improved: Use search terms to filter
You can now combine search terms with other filter options to help you narrow your search.
New: Menu option: 'Organizations'

The final version of the Publication Standard is available
Algorithm descriptions in the registry have a fixed text structure: the Publication Standard. This standard was previously still under development, and various draft versions were used alongside each other. The final 1.0 version became available in December. It is best for the editor to publish new algorithm descriptions directly in this new format. The editor can migrate existing descriptions from the old format to the new format. This is not required immediately, but it is recommended. This helps the editor improve the quality of the registry. Migration assistance is available.
