Calculation of alimony

With a calculation we determine the amount of the mandatory contribution to the costs of daily living of a parent and/or children entitled to social assistance. In doing so, we take the situation into account.

Responsible use

Goal and impact

Assistance is always supplementary to income sources, including alimony. By calculating alimony, the municipality can supplement the income to the assistance level.

A contribution is calculated and imposed. Consequences of this for a citizen can be that one has to pay a maintenance contribution.

Considerations

The algorithm application ensures equality by using a tool that always arrives at the same result with the same input and is up-to-date with the established guideline.

Human intervention

Data entry into INA program is checked by quality employees

Risk management

The risks are in the input and the handling of the results of the calculation tool. Often the data from the moment of separation is not available, and the calculation is based on the current situation

Technical design

If you divorce your partner, it may be necessary to make agreements about alimony. This may be the case, for example, if one partner has a job and the other does not. Alimony is intended for living expenses, such as groceries, rent and so on, so that the partner can lead their own life. Alimony can also be intended for the maintenance of children.

Do you receive assistance from the municipality? Then your partner is obliged to give you money for the costs of living. It is possible that you have not agreed on alimony for this or that a judge has imposed it. In that case, the municipality wants to know how much money you receive for yourself or the maintenance of your children. If you receive money for maintenance, it is possible that the municipality will reduce your social assistance benefit. You will then receive less money.

To know how much money you will receive from your ex-partner, the municipality uses a computer tool. This tool is called INA. If it is known how much maintenance money you will receive, the municipality can adjust your social assistance benefit. The INA algorithm takes into account your income, the number and age of children, and whether you have to pay a lot or a little rent or mortgage, for example.

If there is a change in your situation, you must report this to the municipality yourself. The municipality will then recalculate the amount of your assistance.
