Goal and impact
Support for users with visual impairments. There are many people in the Netherlands who struggle with reading and therefore have difficulty understanding the text on websites. This includes people with low literacy levels, non-native speakers, people with disabilities, poor eyesight, concentration problems, etc. On the WerkBedrijf Rijk van Nijmegen website, you can use ReadSpeaker. This is software that can read text aloud, translate it and explain it. Anyone can use ReadSpeaker.
This version of the text-to-speech tool is accessible, GDPR-compliant and enhanced with additional features, such as reading aloud via mouse selection, a zoom function, screen masking and much more.
Considerations
- Provide the website in B1 language level. This will make the website accessible to a wider audience.
- Processes public website information.
- The website does not contain any personal data that should not be made public. We already publish it.
- The model is not trained using data sent to it, nor do we train the model ourselves.
Human intervention
Text is converted into speech, summarised or explained. There is no human intervention.
Risk management
Risk of incorrect answers: This is very limited. At most, the information provided may be incomplete. This is reflected in the summary, which does not include the entire text, but only the key points. The key points are determined by AI.
Privacy risks: Complies with the GDPR and does not cache anything.
Bias in answers: None; a summary of a text is produced.
